3 Things I Spotted This Week – #37

Live edge floating shelves, a Paulownia tree ring trivet, and a DIY slatwall headboard… Check out this week’s fun (and eclectic) finds!

#1 – Live Edge Floating Shelves

I’m not usually a big fan of wood in general, but I have to say, these live edge floating shelves are gorgeous!

I’ve been redecorating our master en suite with a vintage boho flair. This is quite a change from the modern contemporary, all white bathroom with light maple cabinets bathroom that it was. I’m finding it a lot of fun to try something new! As part of the redesign, I’ve added several interesting pieces of Paulownia natural wood including a large wood tree disc with the live edge.  I love the look of this very light wood – I think it makes the entire space look very grounded and comfortable.

I’ve been wanting to find three live edge shelves to add to the wall that separates the large walk-in shower with the large soaking tub. The shelves I spotted online this past week are almost exactly the look I’ve been searching for!

I think floating shelves like this would add so much interest to the room. I’d decorate them with potted plants, candles and other small vintage treasures that fit with the overall boho theme.

While I wish I could find shelves like these made of Paulownia, we have a lot of downed trees in our woods. I’m planning on taking a walk in the woods to see if I can find a tree that might work for making shelves like this.

What do you think of live edge shelves?

#2 – Tree Ring Trivet

Here’s the tree ring trivet I mentioned up above. Isn’t it cool?! I love the very light color of the wood and love how soft the Paulownia wood is.

I have this large trivet sitting on our white marble vanity between the sinks. On top the trivet is a vintage distressed wood drawer unit (that holds coins and missing buttons). On top that drawer unit is a vintage pot that holds my Resurrection Plant. I also have a vintage rectangular dark wicker tray on top the trivet that holds a beautiful candle. This tree ring has the live edge and that just adds to the charm. I think there are MANY ways you could dress up this trivet and make it work in any decor.

#3 – Slatwall Headboard

In addition to redecorating our master en suite, I’m also redecorating our master bedroom. After getting a new (larger) bed, our headboard is now not long enough and needs to be replaced. At first I was thinking of making a padded headboard that was just the width of the bed. I then realized I like having a shelf for a reading light and a place to put my potted plants, so the padded headboard idea was out.

I literally looked at over 1,000 headboard ideas online this past week, and when I spotted this slatwall headboard, I knew it was the answer!

I have a very handy husband (he can build/make anything). When I showed him this slatwall idea, of course he said “I can build that”. We shopped last night for the boards and he’s making this headboard right now as I type. We decided to make our headboard a white slatwall and use natural maple shelves. The white will look nice against the color of our wall, and with the natural maple wood flooring in our room, I think this headboard is going to look awesome. I can’t wait to install it later today!

Any ideas of trinkets I should add to the shelves?

NOTE: Since my job is an online store and mentoring ecommerce business owners, I spend a LOT of time online each day. While most of that time is spent working, I do occasionally stumble across websites, articles, and cool things that I really like. I save these things to a Pinterest board, so someday when I have some free time, I can go back to that board and enjoy the things I found. I enjoy sharing these fun finds with you, and hope you find them interesting, too!
