A 5th Grade Art Fair at the Mall (Oh, the Memories)!

My brother found a relic from the past in our parents house today.

Remember art class in elementary school when you were given a black linoleum looking tile and a chisel and were told to carve out a stamp in order to make a print?

That memory came flooding back to me today when my brother discovered an art print I created when I was in 5th grade.

Our art teacher arranged for an art show at a local mall.  All the kids in my class were to create a work of art to be displayed.

The mall set up “walls” that our art works were pinned to, and then the people of the mall could vote on their favorite pieces.

I was really into monkeys when I was a kid (always wanted one as a pet – still do). My print is of a monkey. Yes, you might have to stretch your imagination to see the same vision I had as an 11-year old.

I remember creating this art piece (40+ years ago), and I find it amazing that my parents kept this after all these years. If they were still here with us, I would thank them for preserving this memory for me.

Did you ever have art displayed in a public place? What was it and where was it displayed? Please share in a comment below and let’s go down memory lane together….
