The Tale of Two Mops (and My Final Recommendation)

The mop saga continues…

Last May, I polled my friends on Facebook to find out what mops they love – and hate. I was in the market for a new mop and I knew my trusty friends would help. They gave me great advice and even ideas for cleaning products. I just love my friends!

I tried a few different mops back then, but then life got busy and… well, you know how that goes. Fast forward to now – My Swiffer WetJet finally crapped out and I just couldn’t bear to buy another because I really want to be able to use my own cleaning solution. So… I ordered a Bissell SpinWave and a Norwex knock-off Spray Mop to put to the test. One of them went back…

The SpinWave is pretty darn cool – it just glides across the floors with little effort on my part. But, when I use it, I can’t fight the urge to want to turbocharge those spinners. Scotty! We need more power! And the cord is very cumbersome. Yes, I know they have a cordless model – it’s actually what I ordered, but received the corded. And in hindsight, for the size of our house, corded is actually a better option because the cordless model runs for about 20 minutes and then takes 4 hours to recharge. It would take me ALL day to mop all the hardwood throughout our house.

The Norwex knock-off was 1/5 the price of the SpinWave and it doesn’t need a power cord OR batteries. You can use your own cleaning solution in the sprayer, and it has multiple washable reusable pads you can use. Yes, you have to push the mop around manually (no spin action here), but you can really push down on the mop for tough spots and it makes me feel like I’m putting a little muscle into the cleaning.

Storing the SpinWave takes quite a bit of space, where the Norwex knock-off can just lean against (or be hung from) the wall in the pantry and only sticks out about 5 inches (fits behind the door).

So… after testing these mops this past week, I have to say the Norwex knock-off is my choice.

And… I also tested a variety of different hardwood floor cleaners, and wow. The Bona PowerPlus Hardwood Floor Deep Cleaner works like a miracle. No residue. No scent. And, the ingredients are certified safe for humans, pets, and the environment.

I just want to mop ALL our hardwood floors now! Well… okay. THAT’s a stretch. I WISH they would mop themselves, but I can play my 80s tunes throughout the house while I clean, so I guess there IS that. LOL
