The Best Crazy Cake Ever (A Family Favorite)

This Crazy Cake recipe was my Grandma’s recipe, and it has been a family favorite since before I was even born. It is so good!

One of the things I love about this cake (besides how yummy it is), is that you mix everything in the cake pan that you bake the cake in. Less dishes to wash, and less mess!

I’m sure once you try this cake, it will become one of your families favorites, too.

Grandma’s Crazy Cake

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3 cups All Purpose Flour
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • 1/3 cup Cocoa Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Soda
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
  • 3/4 cup Vegetable Oil
  • 2 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 cups Cold Water

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Add all dry ingredients into a 9″ x 13″ cake pan (no need to use a bowl), and mix well.
  2. Add all wet ingredients to the cake pan and stir until thoroughly mixed.
NOTE: Because the baking soda and vinegar interact with each other to help the cake rise, make sure to mix all the ingredients quickly and get the cake in the oven as soon as you can. If you let the cake mixture sit out too long, the bubbles from the baking soda and vinegar will dissipate and you’ll end up with a cake that is more like brownies.
  3. Bake in 350-degree oven for 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.
  4. Cool and frost with your favorite frosting (we like using a Cream Cheese or Buttercream Frosting).
  5. This cake tastes great all the time, but we especially like it served after it’s been in the refrigerator – it’s very dense and very moist and when it’s cold, it’s just even better!

VARIATIONS:

  • While our favorite way to eat this cake is with a Cream Cheese or Buttercream frosting, it tastes just as good with a Chocolate frosting, or any other type of frosting you choose.
  • This recipe makes either one 9″ x 13″ cake, or two layers of an 8″ round cake, or 24 regular size cup cakes.
