[House Plant]: Anthurium – Unique and Unusual Indoor Plants for Your Home Decor

There’s something so peaceful and relaxing about having plants inside your home. I love the look of plants tucked into the corners of a room, displayed on coffee tables and kitchen counters, and gracing bathroom vanities.

Plants help a room feel grounded.

I especially love unique plants. Plants that act as conversation starters, and not something you see everywhere you go.

I’m always on the look-out for unique plants, and with this new series on my blog, I’ll share my latest finds with you. Here’s the latest find…

Anthurium

Glossy leaves shaped like hearts with red flowers bursting up… ah…. the beautiful Anthurium!

About the Plant

The Anthurium is native to the Americas. There are around 180 species of this plant!

The Anthurium likes bright light, but prefers indirect light. It really loves high humidity, so it makes an awesome plant for a bathroom. If you want to make your houseplant especially happy, mist it with water once in awhile – it loves the moisture on it’s leaves.

This plant produces new flowers throughout the year, and the flowers last a long time. The flowers turn red as they grow. If your flowers stay green, it means the plant needs a little bit more light.

Anthuriums are poisonous, so keep them away from children and pets.

Anthuriums are a natural air purifier. They remove harmful chemicals and indoor air pollution from your home or office.

Why I Love It

I love that this is an easy to care for plant that has bright flowers that last for months.

I think the bright pops of color are enjoyable and add interest to any home decor. This plant makes a very cheery centerpiece for a dining room table.

Where to Buy

You can buy this plant online at Amazon for $29.99 in a ceramic pot, or at Spring Hill Nurseries for $24.99 in a 4″ pot. If you have a Lowes or Home Depot near you, they often have this plant in stock. I bought my plant at Lowe’s for $10.99 in a ceramic pot. 😉
