[House Plant]: Prince of Orange Philodendron – Unique and Unusual Indoor Plants for Your Home Decor

This week’s plant choice is the ‘Prince of Orange’ Philodendron…

There’s something so peaceful and relaxing about having plants inside your home. I love the look of plants tucked into the corners of a room, displayed on coffee tables and kitchen counters, and gracing bathroom vanities.

Plants help a room feel grounded.

I especially love unique plants. Plants that act as conversation starters, and not something you see everywhere you go.

I’m always on the look-out for unique plants, and with this new series on my blog, I’ll share my latest finds with you. Here’s the latest find…

‘Prince of Orange’ Philodendron

I love when plants start out with one color to their leaves and then change color as they mature. This ‘Prince of Orange’ does just that!

This Philodendron has bright light-green leaves, but they start out bright orange. How cool is that?!

About the Plant

The ‘Price of Orange’ Philodendron is a tropical plant.

This plant has large, long leaves of bright orange turning to light-green with age.

The Philodendron is a low-growing almost shrub-like plant. The leaves grow from the center of the plant rather than from vines or stems.

This easy growing plant grows best in indirect sunlight and warm temperatures. An east- or west-facing window is the best place to grow this plant. Make sure to rotate the plant every couple of weeks, as this plant leans toward to the light. Rotating the plant will help keep it full on all sides. The plant likes moderately heavy watering with consistently moist soil, but can easily survive with less water. The leaves will become larger with more water and humidity. Make sure to provide adequate drainage to avoid rotting the roots in soggy soil.

This plant can grow up to 24″ tall by 26″ wide. If this plant is in the proper lighting conditions, it can easily double it’s size within a year.

The ‘Prince of Orange’ is toxic to animals and humans.

Why I Love It

I really love the changing colors of this plants leaves – I think that adds a lot of interest and makes this plant have a lot of character.

I also like that the plant is easy to grow, requires little maintenance, and is a great conversation piece.

Where to Buy

You can buy this plant online on Etsy from HirtsGardens for $9.99 (plus shipping) in a 4″ pot, or at TheHousePlantNursery on Etsy for $15.95 (shipping included) in a 4″ pot. I bought mine (photos below) at Home Depot for $7.98 in a 6″ pot.
