[Must-Visit Website]: WindowSwap

Because of the nature of my job, I spend a lot of time online. As a result, I come across some pretty cool websites, and I’d like to share these treasured finds with you.

In this new blog series, Favorite Websites, I’ll post my favorite sites with you, and will give you tips on how you can use these websites. I hope you enjoy!

Favorite Website: WindowSwap

WindowSwap websiteIf you’ve been limiting travel and vacation plans this year, but still have the wanderlust to see the world, now you can – one window view at a time!

The website WindowSwap allows you to see random views from windows around the world. You can even submit the view from your own window, to add to the growing collection! Each window view contains a 10-minute video (with sound) of some place, somewhere. Let’s travel without moving for now – let’s window swap!

To Use This Website:

Once the website loads, you’ll be able to view scenes from random windows all around the world.

  1. Go to Window-Swap.com https://window-swap.com/
The website will look similar to the image below.

  2. Click the button in the center of the screen that says Open a New Window Somewhere in the World
A new window appears, showing a video view from someone’s window. The location is noted in the upper-right corner. The video views are approximately 10-minutes long and include sound.

  3. To view another window, just click the button again and a new view appears
You can continue clicking the button to change the view as often as you want. Fair warning – this CAN be addicting! LOL. Once you start looking through windows, it’s hard to stop!

  4. When you’re done viewing, simply click the X icon in the upper-right corner of the window to close the window
  5. If you would like to submit the view from YOUR window, just record a 10-minute, horizontal HD (high-definition) video of your window and window frame, with the sound turned on, and email your video to qunaliaa@gmail.com (or upload your video to Vimeo.com and then just email a link to your video

Additional Notes:

  • The window views you are seeing are NOT live views. They are recordings of someone’s view at one point in time.
  • When you click to view another window, you might see a window you’ve already seen. The window views are randomly selected, so just keep clicking to view new windows.
  • Each video is around 10-minutes long. You can either watch each window for that length of time, or just click through the views as fast as you’d like – no need to watch the entire 10-minutes if you don’t want to.
  • When submitting your own view, make sure to include a portion of your window frame in the video. Without the window frame, your video wouldn’t really appear as if someone is looking through your window.
