Something To Chat About: The Weekend

I love to talk to people and get to know them better.

Of course, I much prefer visiting with people in real life. There’s nothing better than sitting next to each other, face-to-face and having a conversation.

But, with busy schedules and friends and family spread out all over the world, those real life conversations can’t always happen.

Sure, there’s social media – and that can be a fun way to stay in touch with people you don’t see on a regular basis. But not everyone is into social media.

So….

I’ve started this new weekly series here called “Something to Chat About“.

A place where I’ll ask a question and hopefully you’ll post your answer as a comment below.

Don’t be shy!
It’s just me.
And, well, anyone else who decides to read and follow my blog.

Seriously. Let’s give this a go and have a conversation among friends, family, and acquaintances. Hopefully we’ll meet some new friends along the way.

The question this week is…

*What do you like to do on the weekend?

There are lots of things I like to do on the weekends, but one of my favorites is – I love to go on adventures!

Just get in a vehicle with my family, drive, and see where we end up.

Of course, I have to bring my cameras along. You never know when I’ll suddenly shout “STOP! Pull over!!!” and then jump out of the vehicle to take that “perfect shot”.

We have found some really interesting, out of the way places by just randomly driving!

  • We’ve discovered an old brick yard tucked in a remote area along the St. Croix river and even unearthed some of the bricks from the early 1900s.
  • We spotted spectacular secret waterfalls down minimum maintenance roads.
  • We stumbled upon several graveyards from the 1700s, buried among plants, vines, and dead leaves.
  • We even found a root cellar for a long abandoned insane asylum.
  • Discovering the “Shoe Tree” – a large living oak tree whose branches are filled with hundreds of shoes – was a really cool find!
  • We discovered a large grove of evergreens that were so thick, you had to find a large enough opening to enter between the trees. Once inside, the ground was covered in several feet of pine needles and there were no sounds from the outside world. It felt like we stumbled into a magical place that few humans know about.
  • We’ve traveled down old back roads that we call “roller coaster roads” that have severe hills and dips that continue for miles. It feels like you’re airborne when you reach the crest of each hill. Talk about an exhilarating drive!
  • We once found an old, one-lane minimum maintenance dirt road out in the middle of nowhere, where we were met by a man on a four-wheeler who suggested we turn around and leave. Yikes! Not sure what was happening at the end of that road, but we didn’t stick around long enough to find out!

These are just some of the adventures we’ve had during our weekend drives. We sure have had a lot of fun!

So… tell me about you. Post your answer as a comment below and let’s chat!
