3 Things I Spotted This Week – #18

Since my job is an online store and mentoring ecommerce business owners, I spend a LOT of time online each day. While most of that time is spent working, I do occasionally stumble across websites, articles, and cool things that I really like. I save these things to a Pinterest board, so someday when I have some free time, I can go back to that board and enjoy the things I found.

Here are three random things (in no particular order) that I am really loving this week. Maybe you’ll find them interesting, too!

#1 – DIY Strawberry Tower Planter

I know. Winter has just begun. But it’s never too early to start thinking about Spring gardens!

This week, I stumbled on this vertical strawberry tower planter made from PVC pipes. I love the idea of growing strawberries in a vertical tower! Not only does the tower add interest to a garden or landscaping, it also takes up very little space to grow a large patch of strawberries!

I’m planning on building a wall of these planters to place on our patio. The wall of plants will provide a little bit of shade when sitting on the patio, and with Everbearing Strawberries, there’ll always be a snack ready. Pretty cool, don’t you think?!?

#2 – Handcrafted Vases

I spotted these handcrafted vases this week and was immediately drawn to them. They are called a Hesse Vase and are made by Elyse Graham. They also come with a hefty price tag!

The first thing that came to mind when I saw these vases was “I could make them!”. I would use balloons of various shapes and cover them with Plaster of Paris to form a fairly thick layer. The plaster could be painted any color you wanted and dimensional paints could be used to make the raised dots.

I’m really excited to try this project! I have the balloons. I have the Plaster. I have the paints. Now I just need to find the spare time…

#3 – A Most Unusual Plant

This plant stopped me dead in my tracks when I spotted it on Instagram! Oh. My. Gosh. I need this plant!

This is a Philodendron Melanochrysum. The iridescent black-green leaves get to be 2′ long! The plant itself can reach 4′ to 5′ tall. I love the unique color and patterns of the leaves and the shape is just amazing. I have the perfect window for this plant – now I just have to wait for warmer weather to have one shipped to me.
